Preventing a Mouldy Bathroom

Home

One of the most common places for mould to appear in your home is the bathroom. These rooms are often damper than most – and with this constant moisture and often inadequate ventilation, it creates the perfect environment for mould to form and to thrive.

Fortunately, there are things that you can do to prevent your bathroom from being taken over by mould – here are some tips to help you…

Improve the Ventilation

If air is not circulating adequately in the room, this will mean that mould starts to form. Make sure you have an extractor fan that is working correctly to remove the moisture from the room. If you have a window in the bathroom, open it after a shower or a bath to let air in.

Wiping down any wet surfaces also helps to reduce the risk of mould forming in the room.

Maintain Your Sealant and Grout

Old or cracked bathroom sealant and grout can trap water, making it easier for mould to form. Inspect these areas regularly and replace any damaged sealant with bathroom sealant like this www.ct1.com/product_application/sealing-your-shower-tray-with-bt1-bathroom-sealant/ to keep your bathroom watertight and hygienic.

Clean Regularly

Regular and thorough cleaning is one of the best ways to prevent mould from forming. White vinegar is a cheap and effective product to clean tiles and grout to help prevent mould. You should also wash bath mats regularly and when there are wet towels and mats hang them up to air them out. If you have a shower curtain this should be washed regularly.
