To start, you need to remove as much debris as possible from your drain before you get started. In the past, most pipe repair jobs involved some level of excavation and disruption to get at the pipes. Thankfully, there is now a much less disruptive way to evaluate the issue and fix it by using a jet wash to flush the pipe and then sending cameras along the pipe to identify the problem and then applying drain lining instead of ripping out and replacing the damaged pipe. Drain lining means coating the inside of the damaged area of pipe with a special lining that sticks to the interior of the pipe creating a seal. You could say that it is almost like creating a new pipe within the framework of the existing damaged one. As you can imagine, this is a far less invasive procedure than digging up a faulty pipe and relaying a new one.
